#MeetMeInStLouis – Day 2

When I went to bed last night, the forecast was calling for an 80-90% chance of thunderstorms most of the day. By the time I woke up, the large front moving through had dissipated (in my area) to a single small cell wrapping up as I was about to get my day started. While I was extremely relieved to be staying dry, what hadn’t disappeared was the wind the changing weather brought with it. And I would fight it the majority of the day.

I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t frustrated. An effort level that should have had me cruising right along, instead felt at times like I was making no progress at all. Battling an invisible force working to negate every stroke of the pedals. Though I was working much harder, I was moving much slower than yesterday.

In times like these I try and remind myself, it could be so much worse. I could be doing this in the rain. I could have some physical ailment preventing me from being out here at all. At any moment, life could change forever. I’m out here by choice, and to have that choice is a blessing.

Eventually the last of the lingering clouds cleared away. I put miles of roadway behind me. And the experience of it all left me able to appreciate this moment as I’m not sure I would have otherwise. Every day we have a choice in how we react to the world around us. Today, I’m choosing to be grateful.
