This picture has been the face of my #StupidIdeas profile from the beginning. Captured within it is not a celebration of great accomplishment, but rather a raw, emotional moment of failure. For those who may not know, it was taken during my very first #StupidIdea, the initial #RunToBayshore attempt just moments before I abandoned the effort….. having fallen well short of the goal. Since that day I’ve had the privilege to celebrate successfully completing that journey five times (as well as many others), but these are the moments that change us. This is where we learn and grow. And going through these experiences make the successes mean so much more. I will probably never change this profile picture; it’s what this page is about for me.
Since that first year, this journey has become an annual tradition. Each year I leave home on foot and make my way north to Traverse City, eventually meeting my family there for a weekend of fun centered around the Bayshore Marathon. It’s something I look forward to greatly, and have been honored over the years to share with all of you. This year however, things are going to look a little different. See, my ‘little boy’ isn’t so little anymore, and the knowledge that I don’t have much time left with him at home is always in the back of my mind. Sadly, I also only have so much time away from work, so I’m shifting my focus for a bit.
This year there will be no #RunToBayshore. The annual leave hours I save will allow me to take a little more time with the family who’s supported me through so many journeys, while we’re still all together under one roof. And I’m looking forward that just as much if not more.
Fear not however, a few of my other annual #StupidIdeas are still on the schedule, as well as some pretty big ones on the distant horizon. I hope you’ll give me the honor of sharing them with you when the time comes. Thank you so much for being a part of so many already.
