Each night, after the evening news, they run a short series of cycling slides showing the names and ages of local people who have passed away over the last several days. It makes me smile whenever I see someone who made it to the century mark, and equally sad to see some of the numbers by the names so low. We don’t like to think about it, but someday each one of us will have a number next to our name. At least for now, that value remains unknown. I’d like to hope that mine will have three digits, but in the end…..
2024 is a “5” year for me. In reality that is of no greater significance than any other year, but I can’t help but wonder how many more of these landmarks I’ll be blessed to see. While this may sound grim, I choose to see it as another reminder to treat every day as the gift it truly is.
It may be cold and snowy now, but plans are being made. Journeys I look forward to each year, fun twists on others, and hopefully the chance to spend a few days pedaling over land I’ve yet to see.
Here’s to making the most of all the days to come, however many there may be.
