Road Angels

I originally posted this in the #TridgeToBridge240 Facebook group, but I wanted to share it here as well. As I’ve said so many times before, I honestly believe every one of us is capable of truly incredible things. And more often than not, it’s the love and support we receive from our fellow humans that allow these dreams and goals to become reality.

To each and every one of you who follow my adventures….. Thank You ❤️

“When I took this picture around 4:45 am on Saturday morning, I didn’t have the ability to put into words how I felt. Now that it’s all said and done, I want to come back to it.

I’m sure people driving by this ‘random’ flagged cooler on the side of US23 had no idea why it was sitting there. Perhaps they’ve run a relay or some similar type of event and recognized it as a small aid station. But in an event like this one, it is so much more than simply that.

I was completely alone, and had been for a very long time. I knew there were others less than 10 miles behind me, and I had been working hard for several hours to keep them there. But in the process I had gone through all the calories I had carried with me. I was thirsty, and nearly out of fluids as well. When I finally reached this spot I was exhausted; my whole body hurt from the effort of running without fuel.

In that moment, in that place, it’s impossible to put into words what your simple action of placing a cooler on the side of the road truly means to each runner who came upon it. Sure the chips, soda, and Gatorade help us keep going towards the finish line, but we also take away something you may not realize you put out there. A restored faith in the goodness and kindness of people. A reassurance that the world really is a good place.

From the bottom of my heart, thank you to everyone who supported our runners this year. Whether it was a cooler, a honk and a wave as you passed by, or simply a message online. It means everything.”

❤️
