I can race hard. I can be competitive. I can push myself to run great distances, long after my body wants to stop. But this weekend isn’t about all that.
This weekend is different. It’s seeing friends from across the state that I seldom have the chance to otherwise. Its running the same short loop with them over and over again. It’s three unofficial aid stations on that loop – as well as the officially organized one – all offering Fireball Whiskey in addition to water and Gatorade. And it’s something I look forward to every single year.
Competition is important; it helps us to set goals. To push ourselves to a higher level. But I think sometimes we could all use a reminder that it isn’t everything. Every once in a while, just go out and have fun. I promise you won’t regret it.
