2023 #RunToBayshore – Day 2

It was just after 5am this morning when I set out from the warmth of my room and across the parking lot. My stretchy knit gloves were the perfect weight for the chilly 36° air. The wind picked up a little, and I knew right away I had made the right decision yesterday.

I made my way back to the route as the first hints of daylight crept into the starry sky. Several miles later the sun was up and shining on a nearly perfect morning.
I know everything coming up puppies and rainbows isn’t nearly as exciting to read about as deep personal struggles, but if you’ve followed this page for any length of time you know I do my best to journal whatever happens; the bad days and the good. Today I’m blessed to be able to tell of the latter.

From the beginning my legs felt remarkably fresh, evidently ignoring all I had put them through just 12 hours before. A little over ten miles into the day Doug Humphrey, who lives not far off the route, came out to join me for around a Half Marathon or so. His company was a pleasant change from the solitude of the road, and I enjoyed our miles together.
While I may have technically been alone after we parted ways, in reality I was far from it. The rest of the day was filled with friendly waves from passing motorists (well, most of them anyway), as well as cheerful honks and waves from friends also making their way north. I arrived in Cadillac ahead of schedule, and celebrated with a large plate of Shrimp Fettuccine Alfredo.

It may not happen often, but today was a perfect day in nearly every imaginable way. Thank you for allowing me to share it with you.
🙂
