I left Standish not much after midnight this morning. Making fairly good progress, I found myself reaching little landmarks much sooner than any year prior. The night was nearly perfect; temperatures in the middle 60’s, and a sky full of stars. Around 2am a first quarter moon rose, low on the horizon and a beautiful orange color reflecting through the atmosphere. As it continued to work its way up, it provided much more light than I had expected to have.
Eventually however, that moon was replaced with its much brighter counterpart. Temperatures rose quickly, and continuing to move rapidly became much more difficult. I finally reached this beautiful oasis Tammy & Sam create for us each year, but I’m struggling to recover from the effort required to get here. I’ve had a short nap, and am currently working up the courage to leave all this behind for the suffering I know awaits me out there. It’s now almost 90F, and this next stretch will see me a little less than 70 miles further before I can stop again.
It’s going to be a long night…..
